One of the most famous and well known comets is Halley's Comet. The reason for this is because it is consistantly bright enough when it passes by us that we can see it with the naked eye.
Comets have been seen since ancient times and were thought of as bad omens. They were thought to worn of deaths usually of kings or noblemen, and of major catastrophes. Some even thought that the gods themselves were attacking people for their sins or non belief.
Some comets meet a spectacular ending by smashing into the sun, planets or another celestial body including other comets.
Comet storms happen quite often when chunks of ice and dust that are already traveling through space collide in a big storm. We get quite alot of comet storms in our own solar system.
